(Hannover, 3.7.2016). Attempto Racing missed out on the points at the first of two home outings in the Blancpain GT Series at the Nürburgring. The Hannover-based team had to settle for 19th and 21st place as the iconic circuit in the Eifel hosted a Sprint Cup race for the first time in a joint event with the International ADAC Truck Grand Prix.
Italian Daniel Zampieri (25) and Swiss driver Patric Niederhauser (24), who had finished tenth for the third time this season just eight days previous in Le Castellet, started the main race with the goal of finishing in the points again after coming home twelfth in Saturday’s qualification race. However, Zampieri dropped five places on the opening lap in the number 101 Lamborghini Huracán GT3, thus dashing almost any hopes of a points finish. The duo was running fifth for a while until it came in for a late driver changeover, but then dropped back through the field and eventually finished 19th.
In the second Attempto Racing car, the number 100 Lamborghini Huracán GT3, Dutchmen Max van Splunteren (20) and Jeroen Mul (26) started from 22nd and initially made up ground. However, van Splunteren was then involved in a collision, through no fault of his own. It proved too difficult to fight their way back through the field, and the duo ultimately had to settle for 21st place. They also narrowly missed out on the podium in the Silver Cup class, finishing fourth.
“Although the result was not so good this time, we are moving forward as a team. I am pleased that everyone is continuing to improve. This is a positive development process,” said team owner Arkin Aka after Sunday’s race. The Blancpain GT Series returns to action this Tuesday (5th July) with the official test day for the 24-hour race in Spa, which forms the highlight of the Blancpain GT Series on 30th/31st July.
