Enzo Ide wins on his birthday with André Lotterer

This season the West-Flanders based Enzo Ide is competing in the European GT Sprint Championship of Blancpain GT Sprint, but on his birthday took a sideways step towards the two rounds of the French GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps, and this at the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS Ultra entered by the top Belgian team Audi WRT. He shared this German GT with none other than André Lotterer. Lotterer, a German who resides in Belgium, last weekend for the third time in four years won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the greatest race in the world.
Enzo Ide: “And we won the race on my birthday, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. This will undoubtedly remain one of my greatest memories in motorsport. To be able to work together with such a guy is unbelievable, it quite literally brings you into another world.”
Just prior to the Belgian Red Devils qualifying for the second round in the World Football Championship against Russia, Enzo Ide had already ensured the Belgian national anthem being played on his home ground at Spa. He won the second race of the GT Tour’s Belgian weekend, namely the French championship for GT cars. For the guest-duo the entire weekend ran at a high level, apart from a minor skid from André Lotterer.
Enzo Ide: “As per the regulations we received an additional 20 seconds stop time during the pitstop in the first race, and notwithstanding that we were still lying in second place after the stop, with our sights on clinching victory. What followed then was a safety-car procedure and once the race was back on André, for some unknown reason, skidded off the track. Pity, but OK, we had another opportunity on the Sunday.”
That Sunday race was the dreamed about birthday present for Enzo Ide, who following the excellent stint put in by the threefold Le Mans winner took over the WRT Audi R8 LMS, and 60 minutes later crossed the line victorious. For Ide this was his first victory of the season, and what a win!
Enzo Ide “What can I say? I’ve experienced a dream weekend, together with probably one of the best drivers in the world. I can hardly describe everything you learn during such a collaboration and how professional such a person truly is. I have probably had the best teammate ever, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I hope André will be able to repeat this weekend’s victory during the 24 Hours of Spa. He will once again be competing with WRT Audi and I’m definitely a supporter. I’m now going to concentrate on the European Championship, where we’re out for a strong performance following some bad luck in the opening rounds of the season. In a fortnight’s time it’s the turn of Zandvoort, where two races are on the programme and the Dutch circuit is one to my liking, so I’m heading off there feeling pretty confident.”
