LONDON, UK (June 13 2014) - The FIA Formula E Championship, the world's first fully-electric race series, has today officially launched the media accreditation application process for the inaugural 2014/2015 season.
All media outlets, whether publications, news agencies or broadcasters, will have to apply via the FIA's online system at www.fia.com/media-centre/media-accreditation. Two types of pass will be made available; single race or permanent season pass. Applications for individual races will open three months prior to the event, with submissions for the Beijing ePrix - taking place on September 13 - starting on June 21, 2014.
Media accreditation for all Formula E pre-season tests at Donington Park (July 3, 4, 9, 10 and August 19) is already open. All media wishing to attend must apply by completing the online form here: http://donington-park.co.uk/news/application-form.
Submission deadlines for each Formula E race are outlined below but are usually four weeks prior to the event, six weeks in the case of Beijing to allow enough time to obtain visas. All applicants have the opportunity to apply for grid, trackside and pitlane access in addition to car parking. These will be granted on a case-by-case basis, bearing in mind the space constraints at each of the 10 temporary city-centre circuits.
Successful applicants will collect their pass in the days prior to the race event at a nearby venue. The media centre itself will be fully equipped, including free Wi-Fi internet and host all press conferences.
Tom Phillips, Formula E press officer, said: "To date, the level of global media interest in the FIA Formula E Championship has been extremely high so it's great to be launching our media accreditation system today. As such, we're expecting a high number of applications so we're encouraging members of the press to apply earlier to avoid disappointment, especially as we are quite restricted on places due to the fact that we are using temporary facilities."
Formula E is the FIA's new fully-electric single-seater championship designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans, whilst accelerating the interest in electric vehicles and promoting sustainability. Racing entirely on temporary city-centre race tracks, it uses cars capable of speeds in excess of 150mph (225kph). The first of 10 races takes place in Beijing around the iconic Olympic ‘Bird's Nest' Stadium with the season finale taking place in London on June 27 2015.
