WILLEBROEK. The 2014 motorsport season has come to an end. Following a brilliant year the Willebroek based DVB RACING team can now enjoy a well-deserved rest. In the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux the team clinched two of the three podium places, as first Belgian team made its appearance in the Clio Cup Benelux and proved its worth during the last weekend of the season in the BRCC with the brand new Porsche 991 and their trusted KTM.
Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge
Circuit Park Zandvoort was the rendezvous for the final races of the Benelux one-make cups, namely the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and the Clio Cup. The Willebroek based team was well represented in both disciplines.
With a second place and two victories, the team definitely left their visiting card in the Porsche Challenge. Especially Koen Wauters, who was in great form, grabbing his second successive victory, a fifth podium in six sprint races.
Frank Thuriaux (Team manager DVB RACING):
“We finally finished second in the championship with Jeffrey Van Hooydonk and third with Koen Wauters. It goes without saying that we would have preferred bringing home the title for a second consecutive time, but nonetheless this season has been a pretty strong one. We won five times and in the final count the retirement during the first race in Zandvoort is hard to swallow. Without that both Koen and Jeffrey could still have had their sights on the title. But all the same, we finished 2nd and 3rd and from the eighteen races we finished fifteen times on the podium, which is an exceptionally strong overall result.”
Clio Cup Benelux
Also noteworthy in Zandvoort was the guest appearance of Koen Wauters in the Clio Cup Benelux. This is a new class this season and steadily growing in interest.
Frank Thuriaux (Team manager DVB RACING):
“We have followed this series since its first race and for Zandvoort we decided to aim high on the asphalt. Koen (Wauters) decided to compete and it turned out to be a highly successful première. We at DVB RACING are also proud to have been the first Belgian team to enter a car in this series. The new Clio 4 is an exceptionally good racing car, as shown by the limited number of technical problems throughout the season, and for 100% we intend to compete in the cup next year. Koen was also happy with the progression, as also the high level of competition. We would only be too delighted to enter two cars in the Clio Cup 2015.”
