For the West-Flanders based Enzo Ide the 2014 motorsport season has also kicked off. Several weeks ago the successful GT driver competed in his first race of the European GT Sprint Championship (Blancpain GT Sprint) and this coming weekend he will be at the start of the second round of the Belgian Championship, the BRCC on the French Dijon circuit. In the first instance Enzo Ide will be competing in the entire European GT Championship, namely the Blancpain GT Sprint series. He shares an Audi R8 LMS of the Belgian WRT team with the super fast German René Rast, Enzo Ide: "This entire season we are out to battle it out up front and go for the title. René is the perfect teammate and it goes without saying that WRT is a highly driven and experienced team, with whom I have worked in the past and won races. Unfortunately our opening weekend, during the Easter weekend did not work out as hoped for." René Rast and Enzo Ide drove a strong race in Nogaro and finished in second place, but bad luck reared its head. "Unfortunately after the race it appeared during scrutineering that the rear aileron of René's and Enzo's car was wrongly set-up by a few millimetres, following which the car was immediately disqualified. "We will be analysing this to see how this could have happened", WRT's Sporting Director Pierre Dieudonné declared. Enzo Ide: "All the same we had lost our podium place and were obliged to take the start of the main race from the back of the grid, but we still managed to finish in 7th place, some 4 seconds from the podium. It goes without saying that we are disappointed, but on the other hand the potential is there, and so we're out to put a few matters straight in Brands-Hatch, on 17th and 18th May. Let's just say that revenge is in the air."
Motorsport is also on the programme this coming weekend where Enzo Ide will be competing together with Maxime Soulet and Maarten Makelberge in the second round of the Belgian Championship, the BRCC in Dijon. Enzo Ide: "I'm swapping the WRT Audi for the SRT Corvette, an unbelievably brilliant machine and I'll be back with my friend Maxime Soulet. This will be a first introduction with this American machine and Patrick Selleslagh's SRT team, which after an absence of two years is back racing. They have obviously started off well, because last weekend Maxime Soulet at the wheel of the Corvette won a race in the International GT Open, the championship where he and I won several races with an Aston. I'm therefore confident that we'll be racing up front in Dijon. And who knows there could be more of the same during the rest of the season. Surprises are never ruled out!"
