This season the West-Flanders
based Enzo Ide is competing in the European Championship of the Blancpain GT
Sprint, but this does not mean that he is not competing in other races. This
coming weekend the successful GT driver will be at the start of the two rounds
of the French GT Championship on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in an Audi R8
LMS Ultra, which he will be sharing with none other than André Lotterer.
Lotterer, a German residing in Belgium last weekend won the greatest race in
the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, for the third time in four years. "It's an honour to be able to compete with
such a renowned driver," Enzo Ide commented. "Lotterer is well on the way to becoming a sort of living legend, with a record of achievements that many drivers, and even F1 drivers would envy."
Not
only are the Belgian Red Devils taking on Russia this weekend, but we will also
see numerous reputable motorsport drivers on Belgian soil. In Ypres Freddy Loix
will be going flat out to clinch a ninth victory in the rally of the same name,
whilst in Francorchamps... nine fold world rally champion Sébastien Loeb is now
defending the Citroën colours in the World Touring Car Championship. During
this same meeting the renowned French GT championship, the ‘GT Tour' will be
guests on the Belgian Ardennes asphalt. Amongst the regular competitors we come
across the former French national team goalkeeper, Fabien Barthez, former F1 Monaco
GP winner Olivier Panis and David Halliday, the son of the French-Belgian rock
legend Johny. To add to the list of renowned names, there are two guest-drivers
who are on hand to prepare for the 24 Hours of Spa: namely last weekend's
winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Benoit Treluyer and André Lotterer. The
latter who lives in Nivelles, will be competing with Enzo Ide in an Audi R8 LMS
Ultra of the Belgian WRT team.
In
July André Lotterer will be driving for Audi in the 24 Hours of Spa "and it's never bad to prepare for a race",
is how Ide explained his presence. "He
can do this during this weekend with the car and the team he will also be
racing with in July."
Enzo
Ide is also convinced of the chances that they have as a guest duo and is aware
of the great opportunity he is being offered: "I know André, but to be able to race with him is something else. Not
only has he won Le Mans three times, but he also frequently races in Japan and
holds numerous international titles. All those who might have followed him
closely last weekend at Le Mans will undoubtedly have seen what an exceptional
talent he has. This weekend we're not competing for the championship, but you
can take it from us, we will be going flat out. I'm highly motivated and it
goes without saying that it applies to my teammate also."
