Hobson Motorsport is set to make its debut in the CAMS Australian GT Championship at Sydney Motorsport part with an iconic Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.

Brett Hobson will take the wheel of the Hi-Tech Oils backed entry as part of a field brimming with the world’s leading automotive brands.

It’s been a rough road for Hobson Motorsport since taking delivery of two Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3s in late 2016, with both cars crashing in the 2017 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

While the road back has been a long one, team boss Laura Hobson is delighted to return to competition next weekend.

“We wanted to compete in an Australian GT round all along, but funds just didn’t let that happen prior to now because of the massive loss at the 12hr, and having our first baby,” explained Hobson.

“Sydney Motorsport Park is our home track, so we liked the idea of having our family and friends able to share the meeting with us.

“We have a lot of local support so it’s also a nice way to involve them at a track close to home,” Hobson added.

"It's great to be back on track, and have the support of  Hi-Tech Oils, World Gym, New Living Homes, and Simmons Civil."

The team comes off a successful test day at the western-Sydney venue last week, which provided the squad with its first opportunity to measure itself against a number of Australian GT regulars.

“The car’s never run at Sydney Motorsport Park so there’s no data or point of reference,” explained Hobson.

“On the whole the car was pretty good. There are a few things we need to adjust to make it a bit more driver friendly, but the car is suited to a flowing track and SMP is pretty well that.

“Were hopeful that the car will be at the pointy end, but it’s an unknown track for the car, so we shall see.”

For the moment the outing is a one-of event, but the team hopes to put a program together that will see it become regular competitors in Australian GT competition.

The fifth round of the CAMS Australian GT Championship heads to Sydney Motorsport Park next weekend (August 3 & 4) for three thrilling 40-minute races in support of the Red Rooster Sydney SuperNight 300.

It marks the penultimate event of the 2018 season, and with less than 100 points cover the first six in the title fight, and 541 still up for grabs, the championship battle is set to reach fever pitch.
