KS Motorsport clinches brilliant victory in the 10 Hours of Zolder
ZOLDER. The Belgian motor sport season came to its traditional end this weekend with the 10 Hours of Zolder The race was also the last of a successful first season of the DSMEC, or in brief the Dunlop Cup. For KS Motorsport this race, starting at midday and finishing at 22.00hrs was a real gauging tool for the Ginetta G50R, the British sports car which the Leuven based team are presently thoroughly developing. And the result was there. Stéphan Schrauwen, Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen won the class 3 in their car and finished in an excellent fourth place overall. "We have progressed enormously this season with our British sports cars and this is a brilliant result for the entire team", Koen Leyssens, the KS Motosport team manager commented."We had a pretty heavy programme this weekend", was a happy Koen Leyssens's opening comment after the race. "We started off from scratch at the beginning of the season with the Ginetta, definitely when it came to the longer races, and we have today proved that the car is both fast and reliable. Unfortunately Danny De Laet, Alain Bader and Harry Steegmans were forced to retire. Their car experienced differential cooling problems, notwithstanding the fact that both cars had gone through the same evolution. The differential and its cooling will be important points to work on during the intermediate season. Overall the Ginetta G50R is a fully fledged weapon, at ease in both short as also the longer more gruelling races. Our target is now to work towards 24 Hour races, because there also this British sports car could well ensure a few surprises."
In the meanwhile the car of Stéphan Schrauwen, Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen had worked its way into the top -5, and in the final faze of the race the three drivers clinched victory in class three and an excellent fourth place overall.Marnix Vandermaesen : "The car was perfect today, and I would like to say that KS Motorsport has done more than its fair share of work whilst we finalised matters on the track. This is the ideal manner in which to end off the season.""KS Motorsport has definitely had a strong ending to the 2008 season, what with a podium and a victory in the final BTCS race and now a great win in these 10 Hours of Zolder", a smiling Steve Vanbellingen remarked. "We're now going to fully invest in 2009, because next year our team will once more be taking on the various challenges in the Belgian motor sport."More info and results concerning the 10 Hours of Zolder:
