Another event at the "classic" circuit in Istanbul was only a proof of what really FIA succeeded in doing. Formula 1 has never been so even, the difference between the first and the last within one and a half second in qualification is something you don't see often even in cup races with identical cars. In such a situation, the success or failure is a matter of a fraction of a second. However, this can't change the fact that it is only Brawn, Red Bull, Toyota, Ferrari or Williams who have the chance to score some points. The others need to be lucky or wait for the mistakes of the ones in the front.
Undoubtedly the best packet is the trio Honda, Brawn, Button. Excellent car, predictable in all situations, strategist with immediate and correct reactions, and a fast, car conscious driver, they are practically unbeatable. The race is the only proof you need.Vettel, starting from the Pole with a lighter car made a mistake with cold tires, accented perhaps by a little oversteering tendency of his Red Bull, lost his pace and consequently Button. The Red Bull's response was a nonsense minimal refuelling giving Vettel a light car and hopefully a chance to chase Button. Which he did, but never got a chance to pass him. Instead he wore out the second set of tires and started losing time again. In that moment, it was obvious, he would never make it to the finish and would have to pit once more. That effectively cost him not only a chance to fight for the victory but also his second position in favour of Webber. Barrichello wanted to repeat his starting trick from Monte Carlo, but made a mistake and fell through to the bottom. Trying to get back, he had a collision with Kovalainen first and then also with Sutil. He lost both, his nosecone and a will to fight in the rear. Trulli stayed behind Rosberg until the second pitstop, during which he leapt over him and came fourth easy. Both Williams cars stayed on points all race, Rosberg coming surprisingly fifth and Nakajima, this time without errors, lost points because of troublesome front wheel nut. Ferrari wasn't as fast as in Monte Carlo, they didn't turn well in mid speed parts, Massa reached the sixth position though. The same can't be said about Räikkönen, who made several mistakes again, lost his nose cone and finished pointless. On the contrary, the scoring ones were Kubica of BMW starting from the 10th place and the other Toyota with Glock, starting from the 13th position after a mistake in qualification. Alonso, Heidfeld, both McLarens and others couldn't even think of scoring any points, as they rather had to worry about being lapped, which happened to the 14th Kovalainen and all behind him.In two week's time, after the fast Silverstone, we might already know the winners of both Tables.
