M.Sanytrak - bonsais, suiseky and mineralogy
Miroslav Sanytrák | 18.7.04 | O mne
I first got to bonsais in my student's days, later when embellishing our house, when I met RNDr Truxa who grew plenty of bonsais in his garden. Thanks to him I purchased my first book on bonsais (Miloslav Rysan, Bonsaj, 1985). I only could ponder on bonsais while walking in the nature, there was no time. In 2005 I met chief editor and owner of the magazine Bonsais and Japanese gardens, Ing Jan Stropnicky, who re-established my former interest in them and enriched my knowledge of suiseki. "Rocks" and mineralogy and geology were my great hobby in my youth and I still collect stones.
I keep the collection in several boxes and there are quite a few interesting samples all around my house. I spent a lot of time studying the exhibits in The National Museum in Prague, especially meteorites. Anytime I get a free slot in my agenda in Prague I haste to the museum to review my knowledge. Suiseki helps me to look at stones from a different point of view, an artist's, if you wish. Well, not only mineralogy, when I analysed several samples of meteorites and pseudo-meteorites in the lab using a polarograph but also the art of Japanese suiseki.
