Morriss scorches to Phillip Island pole.

John Morriss has scorched around the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit to claim his maiden CAMS Australian GT Trophy Series pole position.

The Motorsport Leasing/RaceRamps Porsche topped both qualifying sessions, recording a best of 1m 30.173s to secure himself top spot.

An impressively consistent performance saw Morriss then record a 1m 30.223s lap in Qualifying 2, just 0.05s off his ultimate pole position lap.

Series points leader Nick Kelly will join Morriss on the front row, the Industrie Audi R8 LMS Ultra proving second fastest across both halves of the session.

Kelly and Matt Stoupas in the KFC Audi R8 LMS Ultra were closely matched, the pair split by just 0.2s in the opening session.

Audi locked out the second row, with Rio Nugara set to line up third in the EAT Furniture R8 LMS Ultra.

Dave Stevens and Dale Paterson will share the third row in two iconic GT3 machines, the Superfluid Ferrari 458 GT3 and DPM Chevrolet Camaro GT3.

Making his Australian GT debut, Vince Muriti banked a strong 1m 32.316s in the Perfect Auto Body Audi R8 LMS Ultra which will see him seventh quickest.

American racer Brett Strom proved the fastest MARC Class entry, pushing the RHC Jorgensen-Strom by MARC entry to a 1m 34.370s.

Adam Hargraves was ninth fastest in the LOCAL Search by MARC Cars, with Daren Jorgensen tenth quickest in the RHC Jorgensen-Strom by MARC Cars BMW M4 GT4.

Completing the Trophy Series field was Chris Seidler who banked a time after an impressive effort from the team to repair the Seidler Group Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car after a practice crash.

The Trophy Series returns to track on Saturday morning for the first of two 50 minute races at 0955, before Race 2 at 1540.
