We have 2 types of radio links between the cars and the garage, during the race and the test sessions; the first one is used to speak directly with the driver and the second one to receive from the car the telemetry data used by the engineers to check the performances and the reliability of the full package (engine, chassis and electronics)
We have real time links in every parts of the circuit , but in some of them the coverage is not at 100% due to the conformation ( for example Monza. Montecarlo,Spa);for this problem we have develeloped a specific protocol to recover the data lost. The voice radio has, of course, a 2 ways link, the telemetry radio only 1 way (from the car to the pit) due to the FIA Regulations. Some technical characteristics: Voice Radio - Frequency:around 160 MHz - Power 1 Watt - Modulation:FM - Digital coded link - Antennas:on the car omni-directional, in the pit directional
Telemetry Radio - Frequency:around 1.5 GHz - Power:max 0.5 Watt - Modulation:OFDM - Bandwidth: 1Mbit/s - Number of types of info (channels): around 800 with max sampling rate of 10KHz - Digital coded link - Antennas:on the car omni-directional, in the pit directional Courtesy Ferrari Gestione Sportiva - Head of Motor Sport Press Office Via Abetone Inferiore, 4 41053 Maranello (Modena) Italy
