The scandal around the Renault F1 and its protagonists - Nelson Piquet, Pat Symonds and Flavio Briatore finished with a parody of a punishment. The commentaries vary, whereas the first to publicly denounce the humbug was Niki Lauda, followed by Jackie Stewart, both men have always tried to set examples to the others. J.Stewart not only has always fought for the safety of the drivers and spectators (brutally violated by the Renault's crash on demand) and they both have always strived for fair play in every racing and moral sense. Symonds' 5-year and Briatore's lifetime ban on racing activities is just a load of political-financial interests, that are quite understandable for some people in F1. It is only about money, no one would have dared to dice with human lives in the times of Lauda or Stewart, obviously the moral qualities of Renault seemed to have shrunk to financing, a shallow desire to keep the job for the next year. N.Piquet's statement that SOMEBODY spoiled his career or life is utterly nonsense and he only makes a fool of himself even more, good grief. The Briatore's comments about a possible appeal calls for another piquant questions like who really is in the background of the affair. The truth is that in the person of Briatore the Championship would lose an interesting character, although, as it seems, a one capable of doing anything for money. We will see if the matter just dies out on its own or if there is some judicial follow-up. I am personally curious whether the voices of the World Champions of Formula 1 find their ears.
