Portimao (Portugal). With two victories in four races SRT has truly given a shine to its comeback. The Belgian team, that is entering a Corvette C6.R GTE for the Spanish driver Isaac Tutumlu and the Belgian Maxime Soulet in the International GT Open, triumphed in Portugal on Saturday during the first race. Notwithstanding a penalty time of 25 seconds during the pit stop the duo also finished in third place in the second race of the weekend in the Algarve, and as such has scored four podium places on the trot in the championship! Thanks to this first-rate result Maxime Soulet now holds the lead in this championship, a position that he will be defending in two weeks time on the Spanish Jerez de la Frontera circuit.

The International GT Open race weekends are made up out of two races with mandatory pit stop, and with obviously a qualifying session to determine the grid order.

Maxime Soulet: “Our weekend kicked off well with both pole positions; a race weekend can’t start out better than that. Both my brand new teammate Isaac Tutumlu, as also myself were able to clinch top spot on the starting grid, a result which motivated the team even more to continue putting in great work…

The Spanish newcomer now racing for the Brussels based team performed his job perfectly and handed over the Corvette in leading position to Maxime Soulet. The young Belgian finished off the race brilliantly and faultlessly, resulting in a second consecutive victory for him in the International GT Open, after the second race on the Nürburgring at the beginning of May.

Patrick Selleslagh (Team Manager) “It goes without saying that this is a fantastic result for the entire team, especially seeing that with Maxime we also have our eye on going for the title in this top rated competition. Ours Spanish newcomer has quickly and perfectly integrated the team, which was also noticeable on the track. The proof of our good collaboration is this victory, even mathematically I couldn’t put it any better than that …

Isaac Tutumlu: “Our race on Sunday was made more difficult due to the 25 seconds penalty time which we incurred as the result of our victory on Saturday, that’s the way regulations work. However we drove a sensible race, with the points in the back of our mind and notwithstanding the penalty time we finished in third spot … 20 seconds from the winners. It goes without saying that we have formed a perfectly integrated unit and we’re ready for the next round!”

The International GT Open is an international championship, under the care of Jesus Pareja. The championship is comprised out of 8 meetings, and additional information is to be found here: www.gtopen.net/
