F1 history cars
The seven times Motorcycle World Champion John Surtees switched to car racing in the middle of the 60s and won the F1 Championship with Ferrari 158. At the end of the 60s he took up construction of his own car, first a Formula 5000, which he later used as a base for an F1 car. Some innovations for the time like the lowfront radiator. The incoming air was lead through an opening in the panel leaning backwards, being let out through holes in the front bodywork at the level of the front wheels' edges. There was the arrow-shaped front. The main feature of the car seemed to be the overall try to limit the unsprung mass. Therefore you may find titanium alloy at the wheel suspension, thus saving 20% of its weight. Wheels rims were mounted of two parts, pressed from magnesium sheet alloy. There was a hermetically encased polystyrene insert between the flanges. That saved 50% of the wheels' rims weight.
