The new circuit at the Istanbul Otodrome offered the drivers a first class track with a half of fast technical corners and a half of long straights suitable for overtaking. The only disadvantage being the immature asphalt that was „sweating" and was treacherously slippery. From Friday to Sunday you could witness over 50 skids and turns. The best to restrict himself appeared to be the Finn Räikkönen with McLaren, he took his 5th pole position in the season (8th in his life) and 120th jubilation for McLaren. There were both Renaults (Fisichella and Alonso) to qualify after him and his team mate Montoya. The weekend turned into a catastrophe for Ferrari (only Barrichello came 10th, M. Schumacher not classified). Similarly Williams didn't reach points when both Webber and Heidfeld got their right rear tires burst. Räikkönen stood his ground against both Renaults at the beginning and drove tactically afterwards. Montoya covered him at the end but couldn't keep his second position. After two of his driving mistakes Alonso got over him. Therefore the fight for the title between Renault and McLaren hasn't been decided yet so there is a lot to be seen in Monza.
