Renaults unleashed!
When the Renault's drivers took the 1st and the 3rd place in Australia, it was considered to happen partly because of the crazy weather in qualification, but in Sepang the situation repeated no matter what. The temperature ranged from 35 to 37°C, 50°C on the asphalt. And the starting grid? Renaults in the 1st and the 3rd place, this time the reversed order Alonso-Fisichella. Just like in Melbourne Trulli was the 2nd, R.Schumacher with Toyota 5th. The Red Bulls surprised with 7th Klien and 8th Coulthard. The average Williamses and McLarens. Ferrari with the modified last years' cars were not competitive again, 12th Barrichello and 13th Schumacher.B.A.R.s quite surprisingly left space for the others at the beginning, both with damaged engines. Whoever hoped for dramatic overtaking was disappointed. The pilots saved both the engines and tires, so that they would last till the end. In the lap 24 Räikkonen's right rear tire gave in and, after a pitstop, he dropped from the 4th to the back. The collision of Webber and Fisichella brought some excitement to the race. Villeneuve and Barrichello retired because of trouble. M.Schumacher reached the biggest shift from the 13th to the 7th position, gaining his first points of the season.Renault (Alonso) therefore added another 10 points for victory, Toyota (Trulli and R.Schumacher) even 13 points, McLaren (Montoya) 5 points, Red Bull (Coulthard and Klien) 4 points and Ferrari (M.Schumacher) 2 points.
