A T L A S T !!!
That's what not only the Ferrar fans buut all Formula 1 lovers could say after the GP San Marino. At last, after years they could see a race arousing euforia. Even though it did not seem extraordinary at the beginning. Michael Schumacher, with his new F2005, was just pushing the envelope on the slippery course where he had won 7 times. He was the fastest on Saturday. However, he left the track in the last Sunday qualification, which resulted in the 13th position in the 7th row. Kimi Räikkönen with McLaren won the pole, 0.003s ahead of Alonso of Renault. Button (BAR) and Webber(Williams) to follow. Wurz from Austria took the other McLaren instead of still injured Montoya, and Liuzzi instead of Klien in the other Red Bull. Both drivers in the first row started well building up quite an advantage over their rivals soon. Räikkönen first, then Alonso, Button, Trulli, Webber, Sato, Wurtz and Villeneuve. The first to retire was Fisichella as soon as lap 5 - third time in a row! Räikkönen followed, allegedly with a steering trouble. Barichello with the second Ferrari retired as well who did not win any points after his 2nd place in Australia. Michael SchUmacher made his way forward slowly. Obviously, his car was heavier, full of fuel as he had the latest pitstop, almost in the middle of the race. That happened when he was no less than 3rd, after Alonso and Button. He spent minimum time at the second refueling getting right behind Alonso and started to give him hard time. But Alonso didn't panic. He shielded attack after attack not opening Schumacher a crack to overtake. Such an exciting duel of the two best contemporary rivals has not been seen for long time. Facing Schumacher Alonso proved to be number one currently and Schumacher demonstrated his ability to be competitive in the struggle for the title. We can look forward to the next GP on May 8.
