The qualification for the GP had a very interesting result, as both McLaren drivers literally fought for the pole, but finally it was Alonso who triumphed. K.Räikkönen kissed the wall in the second part of the session and his suspension gave in. He almost collided with Massa, who dodged him in the last moment. Because of that, Kimi had to start from the seventh row. It is very difficult to pass in Monaco, also because of the weather forecast over Europe changing form sunny to rainy, whereas there was the possibility of rain for the race. The interesting fact was that there were N.Rosberg and M.Webber high on the grid, and relatively to the previous races also V.Liuzzi had a very good starting position.

The race itself was pretty boring just like any other year, because you can not pass anybody or race too much, all cars follow each other in chain and the final standings depend more than anywhere else on the teams strategy and the pilots retiring because of contact with the barriers around the circuit. In the lap 11 Alonso was already 11 s ahead of Hamilton. 60 laps to go, M.Webber retires because of a technical problem. Davidson receives a drive-through for ignoring the blue flag. In the lap 23 Sutil retires, having touched the wall. That is exactly how the race went. The victory remains with F.Alonso, the last year's winner, his team mate Hamilton came second, F.Massa third.
