The French GP began by a frontal attack at the leading positions, when both Ferraris were unbeatable. K. Räikkönen reached the 16th pole position in his career, F.Massa was right next to him. The race was dominated fully by the red cars from Maranello.

Immediately after the start Kimi shot off, followed by Felipe. On the lap 8 his advantage was already 3 s. Ten laps after the start J.Button damaged his front wing and had to go to the pits, which, together with the regular stop, meant he was a lap behind. Hamilton cut the corner number 7 and was given a drive-through penalty on the lap 57, losing positions and finished on the 13th place. Felipe Massa got into the lead after his pitstop and won the French GP before Kimi Räikkönenem and Jarno Trulli, who scored points for Toyota.
