A standard start suited especially Alonso. As usually, the extreme weather became death to many - air 36°C, asphalt 51°C, humidity 50%. Everyone, including Schumacher, was drinking Red Bull before the start. After it, Alonso gained advantage fast and kept the leading position till the end. All cars took 2 pitstops to refuel, check the tires and get a cleaning. A.Davidson of B.A.R. Honda retired in lap 54 to go with engine trouble (fire), as well as Friesacher with Minardi. J.Button retired 52 laps to finish and B.A.R. Honda did not have a single driver in the race. Kimi Räikkonen managed to get to the pits with the right rear tire burst 32 laps to go but resumed the race. J.Villeneuve of Sauber retired 29 laps before finish. There was a dramatic crash of Webber and Fisichella, including several somersaults but they both left uninjured. R.Barrichello went to pits with a technical trouble. Narain Karthikeyan finished 11th. 1st F.Alonso 2nd J.Trulli 3rd N.Heidfeld |
