Whoever expected one of the fastest F1 circuits to bring an exciting show was disappointed. The most thrilling moments were the final of the Saturday's qualification and the first meters of the Sunday's race, when Webber, R. Schumacher and Speed retired after a crash. The most interesting though were the last two minutes of the qualification. They brought 3 best times and the grid standings were changing till the very last second. However, it was Alonso to come out of it best with his forth pole position in sequence, coming 4 seconds before Räikkönen and 6 tenths of a second ahead of M. Schumacher. Massa with the other Ferrari completed the second row. The following couples were Fisichella and Barrichello (again better than Button), R. Schumacher and Montoya, Heidfeld and Villeneuve. Trulli's engine of his Toyota gave up in the very first lap of the qualification putting him thus to the last place on the grid.
After the latest reconstruction at Silverstone the first part is driven at full throttle and at the end the treacherous corners have to be dealt with. Therefore the teams sent cars with the best aerodynamics and the most powerful engines. And that proved to be the problem when considering how interesting the race was. The pilots drove at the limit and there were no reserves to pass anybody. That is why you could count the instances of passing with fingers on one hand. Alonso went for it from the very beginning taking no chances. The standings changed only after the second pit stops when Schumacher got before Räikkönen. Fisichella, Massa and Montoya as well as both BMW drivers Heidfeld and Villeneuve kept their positions. M. Schumacher best demonstrated the tie driving 1 s behind Räikkönen without a chance to pass though. Similar to Massa behind Fisichella towards the end. So the race finished quite peacefully with Alonso taking his fifth victory this year, again in the start-finish style. He shared the podium with M. Schumacher (for the 5th time) and Räikkönen (for the 3rd time). Apart from these the podium this year has been taken only by Button, Fisichella, R. Schumacher, Montoya and Massa. Which is quite few for 8 GPs. As the upcoming circuits are also fast there is not much to look forward to. Pity
