Ferrari, Renault 18:7
The GP of Germany, anticipated with so much thrill, gave an unambiguous answer to the question concerning the final part of this year's Championship, do we know the Champion long in advance or will it be a thrilling fight till the very end? Obviously, we don't have to be afraid of boredom. The star of qualification was Räikkönen this time, however only due to a half-empty tank, M. Schumacher ensured the first row next to him. To follow, there were: Massa and Button, Fisichella and Barrichello, no better that 7th Alonso and Ralf Schumacher, de la Rosa and Coulthard, Trulli and Albert changed engines and had to go 10 places backwards. The French Montagny's place in the Super Aguri team was taken by the Japanese Yamamoto who started from the pit lane. The start went without an incident, Räikkönen was leading before M. Schumacher and Massa. Both Renaults passed Button, but Button bounced back and returned before Alonso. Barrichello fell behind, Coulthard and R. Schumacher met in a corner and had to go to the pits. Rosberg lost control over his car and crashed. Yamamoto and de la Rosa were soon to retire as well. There were no changes in the standings until the lap 11, when Räikkönen had to be the first one to refuel, but he had to repeat the pit stop because of problems with hydraulics and the rear right wheel. He descended to the 8th position. Since then the race was in hands of the Ferrari pilots. M. Schumacher set the pace, Massa followed close behind to the finish. It was perfect teamwork. After the second pit stop the standings were: M. Schumacher, Massa, Button, Fisichella, Weber, Alonso, Räikkönen, Klien. Both BMWs retired - Heidfeld and Villeneuve, Barrichello's Honda caught fire. Räikkönen did very well at the end, making his way from the 8th position to the podium. The Renault performance was a great disappointment, they stayed in order but couldn't attack. Luckily for them Webber retired, otherwise their points gain would have been even worse. The 89th victory of Michael Schumacher put him 11 points behind Alonso and together with Massa neared Ferrari by 10 points to Renault. That substantially changes all current assumptions about the Championship's results. The question now is, when will M. Schumacher win his 90th victory, how will Alonso react to this unscrupulous attack and when the individual and teams' standing start to change. I'd like to remind you that Alonso had a 25 point advantage after the GP of Canada, Renault 34 and four races after the GP Hungary later-????
