The F1 in Schools® World Finals 2014 is set to be an unrivalled experience for the 38 teams participating in this year’s event. Not only will the students be competing for coveted university scholarships to City University London and the prestigious Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy, they will also have a week of activities and excitement in Abu Dhabi.
The teams, from 23 countries, will arrive in the country a week prior to the 2014 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX. The students, totaling over 250, will be based at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Yas Island and after settling in will start their F1 in Schools World Finals with a networking event; a chance for the teams to meet their rivals with a welcome lunch and a visit to Abu Dhabi’s amazing Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The competition days of the F1 in Schools World Finals 2014 take place at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest indoor theme park. Over three days of high-tension racing and nerve-wracking judging sessions the teams will be busy preparing and delivering presentations and putting their cars through their paces on the track. And when that’s all finished, there will be the chance for the teams to experience the adrenalin-fuelled rides of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
After over 20 hours of competition, the students are finally able to relax and while the panel of over 30 experts continue their judging tasks, the teams will enjoy Yas Waterworld. The evening Gala Awards Celebration Dinner will conclude the competition with the crowning of the F1 in Schools World Champions 2014, in front of an audience of VIPs high profile personalities from the world of Formula 1® .
The event concludes with a visit to Yas Marina Circuit with a VIP circuit tour, pit lane walk and group photo, while the F1 teams prepare for the 2014 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX and in the evening, the F1 in Schools World Finals 2014 Official After Party. Many of the teams will stay in Abu Dhabi through the weekend to experience the F1 event and enjoy the excellent Abu Dhabi hospitality.
Andrew Denford, Founder and Chairman, F1 in Schools, previews the event saying, “We’ve lined up an outstanding programme of events and activities for our World Finals teams. There is a great mix of hard work and relaxation time. The competition will be a tense few days for all the teams – and if past year’s are to go by, not much sleep – and all this dedication to their work, will be rewarded with some very special experiences, including the trips to Yas Waterworld and the Grand Prix. It will be an amazing week for every one of these students, and for many, particularly the World Champions, it will undoubtedly be life changing. We look forward to seeing all the teams in Abu Dhabi in November”.
The F1 in Schools World Finals teams, with three to six members in each, have won through from their National Final and in many countries, they will have had to win a Regional Final along the way, to represent their county at this international event. Six of the teams will be collaborations, with two teams from different countries combining their skills and presenting themselves as one team to compete with other collaborations and national champions, an opportunity offered to each National Finals’ runners-up team. The collaboration teams communicate by virtual technologies before finally meeting each other for the first time when they arrive at the World Finals.
The F1 in Schools World Finals take place with the assistance of a host of sponsors and supporters including Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Autodesk, City University London, Etihad Airways, Tourism and Cultural Authority Abu Dhabi, Yas Island.AE and Radisson Blu Hotel.
