A NEW CHALLENGE FOR JAIME ALGUERSUARI
Miroslav Sanytrák | 4.9.09 | Aktuality
THIS WEEKEND HE WILL TAKE PART IN THE FINAL OF THE WORLD KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP KZ1 (THE F1 OF THE WORLD KARTING) IN ITALY
• Jaime breaks the F1 protocol: while he is still in the fight to win the World Series by Renault, he takes part in the world karting championship in Sarno (Italy) and he is he is the one to watch amongst the F1 2009 newcomers.
• Nobody in F1 had done this before.
• "Being at my age a F1 driver is a privilege that requires me to become better every single day. So I try to fight with the best drivers in the world outside of the F1 ... "
• "On the Sarno track there will be the best drivers in the world, all the karting industry and the world's most powerful karts. It is also an honor to be one of the youngest drivers of this world karting championship 2009 and be able to fight against them "
The World Karting Championship in KZ3 category (Junior) and KZ1 will take place this next weekend in Sarno (Italy). The karts are equipped with a 125 cc engine and had a 6 ratio gearbox being considered the F1 of karting worldwide.
The Intrepid factory, reigning european champions in the KZ1 category, have offered Alguersuari a seat in the Factory Team, along with their 4 official drivers, the Dutch Lammers, the French Nato, the Italian Piccini, and the French Iglesias.
Intrepid signed up with Jaime as an official driver back in 2005 when he was 15 years-old and the Spaniard won the championship of Spain in the top category and became also the runner-up of the Asia-Pacific trophy in Suzuka, Japan.
THE WORLD KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP, ONLY ONE GO!
The world karting championship of Sarno will be really exciting because it is held with a single race. The Junior category, the first step of international karting from 13 to 15 years old, will dispute the World Champion Title for the first time.
KZ1: ONLY ONE SPANISH DRIVER… JAIME
78 drivers from 15 nations will fight during Thursday, Friday and Saturday to gain a place among the 34 finalists.
Almost 50 drivers will return home on Saturday before the great final.
They are disputing the premier class of world karting.
Finishing, among the top 10 means a diploma for history.
AN UNLIMITED DRILL FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT: FORGING HIS HEART WITH A PICK AND A DRILL
Although he practices often, Jaime has not disputed an international karting race since December 2005.
That is to say, 4 years ago.
As the ringtone of his mobile says, the song of Antonio Molina "I shaped my heart with a pick and drill"
His 2009 schedule has been crazy since Franz Tost called him to replace Bourdais at Toro Rosso in Hungary: Hungarian Grand Prix July 24-26, World Series by Renault Portimao August 01-02, European Grand Prix (Valencia) August 21-23, Belgian Grand Prix August 28-30, World Karting Championship in Sarno (Naples, Italy) September 04-06, Italian Grand Prix (Monza) September 11-13, World Series by Renault Nürburgring September 19-20, Grand Prix of Singapore September 25-27 ...
AN INTERVIEW WITH JAIME ALGUERSUARI
- Jaime, is it not enough responsibility your early and unexpected debut in F1, your decision to continue racing the World Series by Renault fighting for the title to include a challenge as impressive as measuring yourself against the best 80 professional drivers in the world karting championship in Sarno?
- Being at my age an F1 driver is a privilege that requires me to become better every single day. So I try to fight with the best drivers in the world outside of the F1 ... On the Sarno track there will be the best drivers in the world, all the karting industry and the world"s most powerful karts. It is also an honor to be one of the younger drivers of this world karting championship 2009 and be able to fight against them.
- But, you have not disputed an international karting race since 4 years ago...
- I know better than anyone that I"m going to fight the best people, I’m 19 years old, I think as a karting driver, I act as a karting driver and I continue to be a karting driver even when I am in F1. In Sarno, my first challenge will be to make the cut and qualify among the 34 top drivers for the final, if I succeed I will have achieved 50% of my goals.
- What about the other 50%?
- Frankly, finishing among the top 10 in the world.
- What does Franz Tost, Toro Rosso’s team principal, think of your hyperactivity?
- With Franz we understood each other perfectly from the first moment we met, the same with Giorgio Ascanelli, team technical manager. Both are very demanding but they agree with me that based on my age I should continue a process of training at a top level, which I would have also developed if I didn’t enter in F1 so early.
- Aren’t you worried that with so many challenges, crowned with success (in Portimao you won at the sixth meeting of the World Series by Renault and you"ve become third in the championship) the fans will demand more and more of you each day?
- No one may demand more of me than myself. If someone wants to raise the bar on my life and my sporting goals at the age of 19 year old at an impossible level such as winning a grand prix this year, or being usually among the top eight of the F1, they must review their table of values. I know who I am. A rookie in F1 with 19 years old. My chance will come sooner or later, but it will depend on the circumstances, I cannot decide on the circumstances, but I can decide about my training so I"m going to run in Sarno the world KZ1championship this weekend and I will dispute the two final test of the World Series by Renault in Nurburgring and Motorland (Alca?iz) with the aim of winning the most prestigious tournament after the F1 in my debut in the World Series by Renault.
