Porsche Sports Cup 2017
(Orlando / Echternach, 24.5.2017).
MOMO Megatron Team Partrax will be in action at the second round of this year’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in the principality of Monaco this weekend (25th to 28th May). As at the opening round in Barcelona, the team from Luxemburg and America will once again line up with drivers Paul Rees (31, Great Britain), Nico Rindlisbacher (20, Switzerland) and Norway’s Egidio Perfetti (41) in three new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, each powered by a four-litre, six-cylinder Boxer engine.
The race, which features on the support programme for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, is one of the highlights on the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup calendar. The principality on the Côte d´Azur has hosted the one-make cup since its inaugural season in 1993. “We are looking forward to Monaco,” said Andreas Leberle, team principal of MOMO Megatron Team Partrax. Few other events in the world of motorsport are as glamorous and prestigious as the race in Monte Carlo. As such, victory here is held in particularly high regard by the drivers. “The drivers are certainly not lacking motivation,” said team principal Leberle, who believes his team is well equipped to do well in the race.
MOMO Megatron Team Partrax tasted success at the opening round of this season’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup a fortnight ago in Barcelona. Egidio Perfetti won the amateur class in race one. Paul Rees finished eleventh in race two, and picked up valuable points in the process. The 3.340-kilometre street circuit through the urban canyons of Monte Carlo poses the ultimate test for the drivers. “The narrow track between the crash barriers gives the drivers hardly any overtaking opportunities,” said team principal Leberle. Britain’s Ben Barker, who has since stepped up into the World Endurance Championship WEC, guided the team to an outstanding fourth place last year, and actually finished on the podium the year before that. Two of the current crop of drivers were in action in Monte Carlo in 2016: Paul Rees finished tenth, while Egidio Perfetti came home 15th.
Leberle believes the drivers must demonstrate a combination of utmost concentration, a precise driving style, and a healthy portion of courage in Monaco: “As such, the course is set for a successful race as early as qualifying. My team has done an outstanding job in the run-up to the weekend, and will give it their absolute all again here.”
